Manchester to get broadband fibre network
A new project is being launched in Manchester to provide a broadband fibre network.
It is hoped that the project will provide an insight into how next-generation broadband can become self-funding and will be rolled out across the Manchester corridor.
Damien Bourke, Policy and Partnership Manager for the Northwest Regional Development Agency, said: “This is the first step on a journey to help make Manchester an increasingly competitive international city.”
It is believed that broadband speeds will be increased as a result of the scheme, with capacity of 100 megabits per second said to be achievable.
When the project is rolled out nationally, users will be given the opportunity to buy their services from a range of different service providers.
The government recently announced it was to make provisions to educate people in sheltered accommodation on how to use the internet effectively.
