BBC: Govt to investigate faulty boiler issues

The government is to launch an investigation as to why some vulnerable people in the UK failed to get their boilers repaired, it has been reported.

Findings seen by the BBC show that many homeowners who are meant to be protected by the Warm Front Scheme did not receive the repair service they are entitled to.

It noted that dozens of complaints had been received, which MPs are set to examine to see what went wrong.

“I think the problems that we’ve seen over recent weeks suggest there may be a problem with aftercare,” Paddy Tipping, MP for Sherwood, told the news provider.

He advised that additional funding should be provided to the scheme to make sure the aftercare service is more effective.

In the pre-Budget report on December 9th 2009, chancellor Alistair Darling announced the introduction of a boiler scrappage scheme.

Grants are to be offered to those who have inefficient boilers in a bid to make consumers exchange them for more eco-friendly models.
